About Fit City

The environment in which we live has a profound affect on our well-being and health. Urban design is an area that is often overlooked in terms of health, both by the people who are doing the designing and by those who are using the spaces.

When we can cycle safely to work or have access to green open spaces near our homes we are more likely to take advantage of the opportunities for exercise. If fresh fruit and vegetables are affordable and easily accessible we are more inclined to eat well, perform well and are less likely to become obese. If bans were enforced and cigarette advertising was limited in public spaces smoking could be reduced.

The aim of Fit City is to encourage young people to think about their surroundings and how they can use them to benefit their health.

Fit City is an initiative of the Oxford Health Alliance www.oxha.org and www.3four50.com

About the Oxford Health Alliance and 3FOUR50.com

The Oxford Health Alliance enables experts and activists from different backgrounds to collaborate in order to raise awareness and change behaviours, policies and perspectives at every level of society. Alliance members from around the world include leading academics, activists and corporate executives, patients' rights advocates, doctors, nurses and others, all of whom share a sense of urgency about the worldwide epidemic of chronic disease. OxHA's first goal is to raise awareness among influencers and educate critical decision-makers so that the pressing case for preventative measures can advance, and we can begin to combat chronic disease.

OxHA is registered with the Charities Commission in England and Wales as the Oxford Health Alliance Vision 2020, Reg Charity No. 1117580.

3FOUR50.com is the Oxford Health Alliance's interactive web platform. The name represents the Oxford Health Alliances key message: 3 risk factors - tobacco use, poor diet and lack of physical exercise - contribute to four chronic diseases - heart disease, type 2 diabetes, chronic lung disease and many cancers - which, in turn, contribute to more than 50% of deaths in the world.

It is owned by no one and everyone - anyone who wants to combat the growing epidemic of chronic disease. Each user has the opportunity to shape the content on the site. By adding blogs stories, information etc., or by telling us what you want to see, you can make the 3four50 site your own.
