Energy into townships

This is a photograph of a township in Cape Town, South Africa. There are makeshift electricity cables running into the township which suggests that there could be significant means of communicating with the inhabitants of townships, either through radio or television. Chronic disease is on the rise in developing countries so perhaps with added means of communication an opportunity is presenting itself for mass messaging about health promotion. Let's hope that 'junk food' advertising doesn't win the day...
