One of the main barriers to attention for non-communicable diseases is that it can take years for an unhealthy lifestyle to lead to these diseases, and people tend not to care about how present actions will impact future health.
How about making a video/ad campaign where the effects of an unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity over many years is seen is only seconds? Similar to 'An Inconvenient Truth', where they speed up melting ice and flooding oceans so people can clearly see change happening, a la the Dove Evolution ad:

This is a great idea!! And, besides ads on TV, start showing it to kids in school at an early age. We have films of our children cheek to cheek with their grandparents who were smokers and had severely wrinkled faces. That image says a million words about smoking!! Anorexic models on the runway would be good too. Then show them a few years later -- or better yet, show Karen Carpenter's grave. She showed an entire generation that Anorexics die young.
