The National Changing Diabetes Program just released some interesting findings:
12 percent of the $645 billion federal health care budget in 2005 was spent on treating people with diabetes (1 in every $8), and advocates are calling for the creation of a government post to oversee coordination of spending on treatment and prevention among federal agencies.
The study also mentions that diabetes has an impact beyond the health sector alone, and provides compelling reasons for a multisectoral, collaborative approach to diabetes (chronic disease) prevention and control.
