World Diabetes Day 14-Nov-2008
11th Nov 2008
World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes world. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organisation in response to the alarming rise in diabetes around the world and is now recognised as an official United Nations Health day with the passage of United Nations Resolution 61/225. While the World Diabetes Day campaigns last the whole year, the day itself is celebrated every year on
November 14, to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922. This year Novo Nordisk is inviting Health Care Professionals in different regions around the UK to celebrate World Diabetes Day. Seminars will take place around secondary care centres in the UK to discuss Novo Nordisk’s research in diabetes and our involvement in Changing Diabetes.
These seminars will be attended by representatives from the clinical and/or medical department at Novo Nordisk in the following centres:
1. Birmingham Heartlands
2. Birmingham Queen Elizabeth's Hospital
3. Bradford, Bradford Royal Infirmary
4. Hull, KC Stadium
5. Oxford, OCDEM
6. Plymouth, Peninsula Medical School (by Derriford Hospital)
7. Exeter, Peninsula College of Medicine & Dentistry
8. Swansea, Swansea University
