Country: United States of America
Organisation: MATRIX Public Health Solutions
I recently graduated from Yale School of Public Health, where I focused on Global Health, particularly the effect of globalization on chronic disease rates worldwide. I want to prevent and manage chronic diseases (especially diabetes) in both developing and developed countries by working with food and other companies, policymakers, governments and individuals to maximize positive aspects of globalization.
Currently, I am working on OxHA's CIH initiative, which is a multinational intervention to address the 3 risk factors for chronic disease - diet, physical inactivity and tobacco use - in community-wide programs. I am part of the evaluation team at MATRIX Public Health Consultants, where I am currently helping to develop the various survey instruments and get the projects off the ground.
I am also a member of the Novo Nordisk Youth Panel, a group of young people who are working to increase awareness of the social, economic, and humanitarian aspects of diabetes, in conjunction with the Unite for Diabetes campaign.
In 2006, I interned at the Oxford Health Alliance and HEAL Global Partnership, where I researched and wrote a report about how companies can engage to promote health and prevent childhood obesity and chronic disease, especially in emerging market countries.
Particular interests are diabetes/chronic disease in India and other emerging market countries, harnessing the positive aspects of globalization for health promotion, public-private partnerships, translational research, playing squash, cycling, and fruit.
